Rayman Origins is a platform video game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Microsoft Windows. It is the fourth main installment in the Rayman series, and the first main installment since 2003's Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. The game was released on 15 November 2011 in North America, 24 November 2011 in Australia, and 25 November 2011 in Europe for PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. It was released later for PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo 3DS. The OS X version of the game was released on 12 December 2013 by Feral Interactive. The story follows Rayman, his friend Globox and two teensies as they fight Darktoons and other evil creatures that have infected the Glade of Dreams.

Rayman Origins has received critical acclaim, being highly praised for its graphical style, level design, and sense of humor. Despite its critical reception, the game did not perform very well commercially during its original release selling below sales expectations at the end of its first month. A mobile game based on Origins, titled Rayman Jungle Run, was developed by Pastagames and released for iOS, Android, and for Windows Phone 8 on 29 May 2013. A sequel, Rayman Legends, was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii U and Xbox 360 on 29 August 2013 in Australia, 30 August 2013 in Europe, and 3 September 2013 in North America to similar critical acclaim.

Plot

At the beginning of the game, Bubble Dreamer, Rayman, his best friend Globox, and a couple of Teensies friends are chilling out at Bubble Dreamer's resting grounds, the Snoring Tree. However, their snoring, with the help of a strange microphone disguised to resemble a flower, disturbs an old granny from the Land of the Livid Dead, who retaliates by sending an evil army of horrendous creatures and the Darktoons across the world. The heroes, being woke up, attempt to fight back, but are defeated and captured. Rayman escapes and finds the Darktoons have captured the Electoons that inhabit the world, imprisoned Betilla the Nymph and her sisters and plunged the Glade of Dreams into chaos.

  4. Are there any gamepads that are recognised but unsupported?

  5. How do I switch my pad to the correct mode?

Some gamepads support both DirectInput and XInput modes. These gamepads can be identified by a switch on them that has two options, “D” (DirectInput) and “X” (XInput).

To play Rayman Origins a gamepad must be supported and set to DirectInput mode.

Currently supported devices that have this switch are:

    • Logitech F310
    • Logitech F510
    • Logitech F710

If your gamepad has the switch and is not on this list, you will not be able to use it to play Rayman Origins without a pad support file. To obtain one, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, we can usually create a gamepad support file and email it to you.

To switch the gamepad to DirectInput mode, follow these instructions:

    1. If the Rayman Origins application is running, close it.

    2. Unplug the gamepad (or wireless receiver, if the gamepad is wireless).

    3. Turn the switch on the pad to “D”.

    4. Plug the pad or wireless receiver back in.

    5. Restart the Rayman Origins application.

You will now be able to play Rayman Origins with the gamepad.

  6. How do I join the game if I'm not player 1?

If you are not player 1, you can join the game by pressing your 'Hit', 'Jump' or 'Back' control.

    To view your control configuration:

    1. Select Options from the Main Menu.

    2. Select either 1, 2, 3 or 4 from the Player option in the top-left corner of the screen, to choose which player's controls to view.

  7. Magic Mouse and Trackpad gestures interfere with the game. How do I disable them?

Finger 'gestures', which are used by Magic Mice and Trackpads to switch between windows and applications, can disrupt your game if used inadvertently.

To disable them, follow these instructions:

    1. Open System Preferences ( MenuSystem Preferences).

    2. Click on Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).

    3. Select the More Gestures tab.

    4. Uncheck all the checkboxes.

  8. Where are my saved games stored?

Your saved games are stored in your game's preferences folder.

To open this folder, click the Open Preferences Folder button in the Info/About tab of the pre-game Options window.

You can also navigate to the preferences folder manually. It is stored in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Library/Application Support folder (where the '~' symbol refers to your home directory).

By default, the Library folder is hidden from your Finder. To open it, follow these instructions:

    1. Open the Finder.

    2. Open the Go menu from the main toolbar.

    3. Hold down the Alt (⌥) key. The Library option will appear.

    4. Click on the Library option. The Library folder will open in your Finder.

  9. When I press the Function keys (F1-F19) nothing happens. How do I use the Function keys?

By default, Mac OS X uses the F keys to control items such as volume and brightness. To use an F key for a game command hold down the fn key, then press the F key you wish to use.

To automatically enable the F keys, follow these steps:

    1. Open System Preferences ( MenuSystem Preferences).

    2. Click on Keyboard or Keyboard and Mouse (depending on the version of Mac OS X you are running).

    3. Select the Keyboard tab.

    4. Check the Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys checkbox.

The F keys will now work without using the fn key.

  10. Can I run Rayman Origins in windowed mode?

    Yes.

To run Rayman Origins in windowed mode, follow these instructions:

    1. Double-click on the Rayman® Origins application icon while holding down the Command (⌘) key. The pre-game Options window will appear.

    2. Click on the Video tab.

    3. Check the Run in a window checkbox.

    4. Click the Play button. The game will start in windowed mode.

NOTE: Playing the game in windowed mode may decrease its performance.

  11. How do I take screenshots in Rayman Origins?

To take screenshots while playing Rayman Origins you should use the following key command:

    Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + P

When you press all three keys at once, a single image of the on-screen contents will be saved in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Pictures folder (the '~' symbol refers to your home directory).

The JPEG image contains metadata in a string in the following format.

GameName/Version Number (OS Version; CPU Speed; Installed RAM; Video RAM; Current Graphics Card)

For example in Rayman Origins the string might look a little like this:

    Rayman Origins/1.0 (macOS 10.13.4; 3.0; 8.0; 4.0; AMD Radeon R9 M395X)

This information can be easily removed by exporting the screenshot into a different format using Preview or another image editing tool.

NOTE: None of the metadata stored can be used to identify the user.

  12. Can I play this game on a case-sensitive file system?

No. Rayman Origins has been tested with the basic formatting option for Mac OS X, which is HFS+. This system is not case-sensitive and identifies files by name without checking capitalization.

The capitalization of filenames is not consistent throughout the game. While this will not always prevent the game from running on case-sensitive file systems, it may lead to crashes and other unpredictable behaviour.

If you have to run a case-sensitive setup and you experience problems with Rayman Origins, please install the game on a standard formatted partition or read/write disk image. In most cases this will allow you to play the game on your machine.

  13. How do I stop the dock, notifications and the desktop cursor from appearing while I'm playing Rayman Origins?

The dock or notifications may occasionally appear while you are playing Rayman Origins, or the desktop cursor may replace the game cursor. This can disrupt a game.

You can prevent them from occurring by checking the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox in the Rayman Origins pre-game Options window. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Double-click on the Rayman® Origins Application icon while holding down the Command (⌘) key. The Rayman Origins pre-game Options window will appear.

    2. Select the Advanced tab.

    3. Check the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox.

  14. Rayman Origins runs slowly on my computer. Is there anything I can do to increase the speed?

There are several factors which have an impact on the speed at which Rayman Origins runs. Please see the Rayman Origins Performance Tips section in the ReadMe for ways to increase the speed at which the game runs on your computer.

  15. How do I get technical support for Rayman Origins?

Please read the technical support information in the ReadMe; this tells you what to check and if necessary, how to contact Feral Technical Support with your issue.
